From Whence We Came Logo
To celebrate the publication of The Massillon Connection, a book they commissioned about the founding of their town, the Massillon Museum staff came to Cassel Bear, desiring a name, tagline and logo for the book release party they were throwing.
The task was to somehow incorporate a lot of ideas: the joint founders of the town (a Jesuit and a settler), the idea of roots and origins, the can-do, prevailing attitude and community spirit that still persists in Massillon today. They was also a desire to avoid imagery that might be too blatant or on-the-nose (i.e a Conestoga wagon or the town square).
In the end, we opted to play with an antiquated text style that mimics posters and labels of the early 1800s (when the town was founded), set alongside a sturdy, contemporary, no-nonsense font which reflects the town today. The use of a subtitle as the tagline allowed us to include historical context in a manner that feels streamlined, not awkward and clunky.
Capital Campaign Video
The Massillon Museum recently kicked off a capital campaign to raise funds which will cover the costs of a major expansion to their building, allowing for more exhibit and performance spaces, additional staff offices, classrooms and lecture areas for the community, and additional collection storage areas. They turned to Cassel Bear to create a brief video which would highlight these goals, while also encouraging potential donors to be part of several legacies that the new building will enable – a Massillon football legacy, a legacy of new jobs and increased traffic to downtown Massillon, a legacy of increased art programming and educational opportunities for the children of Stark County, and much more.
