Craig Joseph

Creative Director

The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can.

—Neil Gaiman

Always on the lookout for compelling stories, Craig joined Cassel Bear because of the opportunity to engage with businesses, non-profits and organizations that have unique tales to tell. As Creative Director, he helps new and existing clients better discern what they offer their target audiences, brainstorms creative ways to articulate those messages, and then oversees projects that communicate in print, on the web, through video—whatever medium fits.

This love of storytelling is nothing new. After years of putting on plays in the backyard and forcing his homemade books on tolerant relatives, Craig received his BA in English and Religion (Summa Cum Laude with Honors) from Wake Forest University, where he regularly wrote for literary journals and the newspaper, while acting and directing at the University Theatre. Graduate work took him to Northwestern University, where he received his MA in Theatre and Film, beginning work on his PhD before realizing that—you know what—he didn’t want to be in school anymore. Since then, Craig has worked in a variety of different contexts: churches, non-profits, theatre companies, universities, and a marketing agency. The common thread has been an opportunity to hear and listen to stories—from those he’s counseling, pastoring, directing, teaching, or promoting. And then the exciting task of telling tales afresh onstage, from the pulpit, in an article, or through a strategic campaign.

When not at the office, Craig keeps an active artistic life in the community. He’s the owner and curator of Translations Art Gallery in downtown Canton, and maintains an acting and directing career with theaters around Northeast Ohio. He’s an avid walker, reader, movie-lover, roadtripper, and is the proud father of dogs Babs and Monty.

What Craig rocks: Identity development, creative concepting, copywriting, storytelling, project management, keeping meetings short, and working on the floor of his office.
