“It’s all in how you arrange the thing … the careful balance of the design is the motion.”
— Andrew Wyeth
With a varied design career including corporate in-house work, a Big Ten university communications group, and freelancing, Jesse joined Cassel Bear after searching for an opportunity to work with a smaller team and connect more personally with clients. His wide range of experience informs his unique perspective, which he applies to the problems of crafting individual identities and careful, creative solutions.
Jesse has an agricultural background, and was the third generation of his family to work at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center—first as a research assistant, then later as a senior graphic designer. The lettering on old lab equipment was an early inspiration for what was to become a typography passion, eventually realizing itself in his second retail font Centrifuge. Illustration is another area of interest, and Jesse loves any opportunity to work an original illustration into a project. With formal education occurring in Illustration at the Columbus School of Art and Design, Jesse is an inveterate learner who is always taking a new class or reading a new manual to enhance his skills.
At home, Jesse channels his artistic side into painting, usually with watercolors and acrylics. He loves to spend time with his wife, Chelsea, sometimes taking long drives through the countryside or hiking around the many parks in Northeast Ohio. Penny the rescue pup and Sasparilla the chinchilla round out the family. Reading a book on the porch while sipping a good bourbon is also a favorite pastime.
What Jesse rocks: fine-tuned typography, brand and identity development, original illustration, finding four-leaf clovers, and catching spelling mistaks.
